Overview

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Pinheiros, São Paulo, THAI E-SAN RESTAURANTE TAILANDÊS offers an authentic journey into the rich flavors of northeastern Thailand. This family-owned gem stands out in Brazil’s culinary scene by delivering genuine Thai cuisine that resonates deeply with locals and expatriates alike.

The restaurant’s menu is a careful curation of classic dishes that capture the essence of Thai gastronomy. Highlights include the iconic Tom Yum soup, bursting with a harmonious blend of sour, spicy, and aromatic notes, and the Massaman curry, praised for its bold and layered flavors without the overpowering taste often found in lesser preparations. Seafood enthusiasts will particularly appreciate the Suki Thale Sopa Frutos do Mar, a vibrant, flavorful hot pot bringing ocean freshness to the table.

One of the defining features of THAI E-SAN is its balanced approach to spice, allowing diners to customize the heat level. This sensitivity ensures that dishes like the Som Tum (green papaya salad) remain approachable without sacrificing authenticity. The Pad Si Xiw, a lesser-known but equally delightful stir-fried noodle dish, has earned many loyal fans, illustrating the restaurant’s commitment to diversity beyond common Thai staples.

The atmosphere at the Pinheiros location leans toward simplicity—it's an unpretentious and lively space that focuses primarily on the food experience rather than lavish décor. Some may find the noise level high and the service brisk, but this unassuming environment still fosters warmth and friendliness, reflecting the genuine spirit of the Thai hospitality behind the scenes. While it may lack the ambiance of high-end establishments, its core appeal lies in delivering quality and portion sizes that satisfy even the most discerning appetites.

For visitors familiar with Thailand, the authenticity resonates strongly. Long-term travelers and expatriates have applauded the restaurant for capturing tastes reminiscent of home, a true rarity in São Paulo’s varied Asian food offerings. Importantly, THAI E-SAN uses quality ingredients that avoid common pitfalls such as overpowering canned coconut milk flavors, improving the overall dining experience.

Located on R. Cunha Gago, 399, this Pinheiros branch complements their original venue in Liberdade and a spot in Faria Lima, solidifying their presence as a reliable destination for Thai cuisine in São Paulo. The restaurant appeals to a mix of adventurous eaters, Thai food aficionados, and those looking for a genuine taste of Southeast Asia without leaving Brazil.

In summary, THAI E-SAN RESTAURANTE TAILANDÊS is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic, flavorful Thai food with generous portions and a welcoming, if casual, setting. Its balance of true regional dishes, thoughtful spice management, and dedication to flavor craftsmanship makes it a standout choice in a city known for its diverse gastronomic landscape.

Been traveling in Brazil for almost two months and finally got the taste of home! I’d say this is probably the closest you’d get to authentic Thai food in São Paulo. If you can handle spice, go for somtum, it’s delicious. Massaman curry was rich and flavorful. They also have original Thai tea, it’s a must-order. Although I’m not a fan of the location and the atmosphere, but if you can look pass those points, the restaurant is worth a visit.

Most likely the best thai food you can get in Brazil. Portions are huge also. It wouldnt be fair to compare with the restaurants in Thailand so I’m giving 5 stars for the food. Thai family owned, serving authentic Thai dishes. This restaurant in Faria Lima is the second branch, with the first one in Liberdade. Worth trying definitely. Pad thai was too sweet for me but som tum is with slightly less fish sauce which is perfect for foreigners and pad phong curry is delicious.

Went to Thai land a couple of years ago and this restaurant took me back. Great authentic food, big portions, friendly staff, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. A must if you are visiting Sao Paolo and like Asian food.

I need to join the vast majority of the reviewers in praising this restaurant for its excellent food. all the shortcomings come from non food related issues. the room itself is nothing special, while it did not inspire abhorrence. the noise level is very high, the service is hectic but not unfriendly. everything in this restaurant suggest a simple and unpretentious joint. then the food arrives, and it is quite thai haute cuisine or, at least, real thai cuisine. like the one you have in very good places in thailand. the only concession to un-thai tastes is that you can choose the level of spiciness, what is absolutely great. as a foreigner, living in são paulo, I never adapted to the soapy taste of the most famous brand of bottled coconut milk. so I skip food with coconut milk. which is a problem, since coconut milk is a constant of thai and many other asian, and brazilian recipes. I don't know which kind of coconut milk they use at thai e-san, but the keang mussamun was simply superb. anything but soapy. the kung ob woosen incredible. both chicken and shrimp tom ka were delicious, as the other members of our party told me. I did not dare to try them, since it's too an overload of coconut milk for someone who is basically allergic to it. so, my only disappointment in this restaurant is that they close too early. until 9:30 pm to vacate the premises, in pinheiros, is quite too early. but this is a constant problem with most restaurants of oriental cuisine. they did not adapt well to são paulo dinner habits. so, while the non food experience is a 3 stars, a simple place like many others, go with the same expectation you go to a lanchonete, the food is so beyond 5 stars, that the final result is 5 stars anyway. addictive.

Some of the bigger brands & restaurants should visit places like this to learn what actually is food and how important it is to be authentic. By far the best Thai food one can expect in Sao Paulo. Brilliant taste, clean, hygienic and large portion sizes. You get much more than what you pay for. Brilliant, will visit again!
